Writing Out Loud
Fearless Freewriting (publication)
This wonderful 5x7 booklet was written by Sharron, Alice and Barb, three former literacy students who took part in the Chapters Program. Having discovered writing as a way to help them move forward in their lives, these women wanted to share with other people in literacy programs what writing meant to them.
Fearless Freewriting came out of a course Deborah Morgan took through the University of Alberta and the Edmonton Learning Centre called "Participatory Approaches to Adult Literacy Education." One of the goals of the course was to encourage a group of students to participate in a special project of their choosing. Sharron, Alice and Barb identified the need for people to be familiar with freewriting as a "fearless" starting point for writing. The end product was this excellent plain language guide for students and instructors about the benefits of freewriting.
